Payment of Benefits

Benefits are paid on Sundays and cover a two calendar week (Sunday to Saturday) period.

Benefit payment method

Benefits are paid via direct deposit or by cheque.

Direct deposit:

Direct deposit is safe, practical and fast. You can sign up at any time.

Direct deposit of benefits is made directly into your bank account three or four days after the benefit payment date.

You will not receive notice of the direct deposit by mail. However, if you are registered for the Québec Parental Insurance Plan (QPIP) online services, you can check your online file for the amount and date of a payment.

Many financial institutions offer direct deposit services. The main ones are:

  • Bank of Montreal
  • Scotia Bank
  • Royal Bank
  • TD Canada Trust
  • National Bank of Canada
  • Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce
  • Laurentian Bank
  • Tangerine Bank
  • Caisses Desjardins du Québec
  • Fédération des caisses populaires de l’Ontario
  • Fédération des caisses populaires acadiennes

See the full list of financial insitutions offering QPIP direct deposit services.

Cheque:

You will receive a cheque via regular mail; allow for normal Canada Post delivery times.

To avoid any inconvenience due to postal delays caused by statutory holidays, register for direct deposit. It’s safe, practical and efficient.

Important

If you change address, you are required to advise us. Because parental insurance benefits are subject to income tax, in your tax returns you must declare the amount you receive. We need your exact postal address to be able to send you your tax slips.
