Declaring Income While You Are Receiving Benefits
You are required to declare any income you earn while you are receiving benefits. This income may reduce the amount of your benefits. Barring exceptions, the income you declare is taken into account for the week in which it was earned and not the week in which it was received.
- When you are receiving maternity benefits:
- Each dollar earned is deducted from your benefit.
Example 1
- When you are receiving paternity, parental or adoption benefits:
- Each dollar earned over 25% of your gross weekly benefit is deducted from your benefit.
Example 2
- If your gross weekly benefit is less than $200, you have a right to up to $50 without any deduction from your benefit, but each dollar earned over $50 will be deducted from your benefit.
Example 3
Example 4
Income that may reduce the benefit amount includes:
- Employment income
