Deductions at Source

Parental insurance benefits are taxable at both government levels (provincial and federal).

You may request that the basic amount, or the amount transferred from the spouse, be considered as income tax credits. They can then be applied to the deductions at source from your benefits.

If you wish to have the tax deduction increased, in addition to the basic amount or amount transferred from the spouse, you must specify the gross amounts (per two-week payment) you would like deducted from your benefits.

If you are a Status Indian and the income eligible for the Québec Parental Insurance Plan is tax-exempt, you may request an exemption from deductions at source, if you so wish.
